The Area Welcome to Sequim, located on Washington State's Olympic Peninsula. Sequim ("S'kwim") means quiet waters in the native language of the S'Klallam tribe, a perfect name for this valley community located in the sun between the deep waters of the Strait of Juan de Fuca, and the breathtaking Olympic Mountains of Washington state. Sequim is the center of the North Olympic Peninsula, just minutes from the Victorian Seaport of Port Townsend and Port Angeles, the gateway to Victoria, British Columbia and Olympic National Park. Located adjacent to Olympic National Forest Sequim is conveniently situated to be your vacation destination. The sun shines here more than anywhere else in western Washington. The "rain shadow", caused by the Olympic Mountains, protects the valley from the rain that falls east and west of Sequim. The City of Sequim is small town Americana. It is located in one of the most beautiful spots in the world with mountains to the south, waters to the north, and weather that the rest of Washington and many other coastal communities envy. It has many unique gift shops, murals, antique stores, galleries, and fine restaurants. Visit the Open Aire Market on Saturdays where local growers sell fresh produce and artisans sell their hand-crafted items. Bring your bike, kayak, golf clubs, walking shoes, and binoculars and plan to spend some time in our lush valley. Pick lavender, strawberries, and savor our flavorful native Dungeness Crab. We know there is lots to see and do so come soon and often. Come visit Sequim, you are always WELCOME!
